The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has suffered a major setback as 1,600 members defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Limawa Ward, Dutse Local Government Area.
The defectors were officially received by the PDP Deputy State Chairman, Umar Danjani, during a brief ceremony held in Komawa, the political headquarters of Limawa Ward.
Speaking while receiving the defectors, People’s Democratic Party PDP deputy state chairman, Mr Umar Danjani described the mass defection as clear evidence of what he called the failure of the APC-led administration in the state.
Mr Umar Danjani noted that Limawa has long been considered a stronghold of the ruling party, producing key figures such as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs and the current member representing Dutse Constituency in the State House of Assembly.According to him “Losing 1,600 members from such a strategic ward shakes the APC’s foundation,”
He commended the defectors for what he described as a courageous and timely decision, adding that their action reflects the growing public demand for inclusive and responsible governance.
“We are proud of your bold step. PDP does not chase members—we empower them. You are joining a party committed to jobs, education, and security for all,” he added.
Danjani assured the new members that they would enjoy full rights and privileges within the party and urged them to remain steadfast as the PDP works toward reclaiming Jigawa State in 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Umar Abubakar said they dumped the APC because the ruling party had failed to fulfill its promises, “They promised us paradise but delivered pain—broken roads, unemployed youth, and empty pockets,”.
Abubakar noted that although Limawa remains a notable APC base, the failures of the current administration have inspired many supporters to reconsider their loyalty.
He expressed optimism that more APC members would soon join the PDP in search of what he called genuine leadership.
He further accused the APC of neglecting the area in terms of human and infrastructural development despite campaign promises made ahead of the 2023 elections.
