A political group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State, the Hyper Progressive Movement (HPM), has formally called on philanthropist and community development advocate, Ambassador Halima Sulaiman Zakar, to seek the Jigawa South-East senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
The call was made at the group’s general meeting at Manpower Development Institute (MDI) in Dutse, where members said their decision followed wide consultations with community leaders, elders, youths and political stakeholders across the senatorial district.
Speaking shortly after the meeting, HPM Chairman, Dr. Bashir Musa Muhammad, said the group was convinced that Ambassador Zakar possesses the credibility, grassroots acceptance and development record required to effectively represent the people at the National Assembly.
“Our appeal is based on her proven track record in education, youth and women empowerment, and community development. These interventions have positively impacted lives not only within Jigawa South-East but across the state,” Muhammad said.
He noted that findings by the group indicated that Ambassador Zakar had executed and supported development projects valued at over N12 billion, including ongoing erosion control works and empowerment initiatives for vulnerable groups.According to him, the group believes that encouraging credible leaders to contest elective offices is a democratic responsibility.
“When you see a capable and trusted leader, you don’t allow such a person to be left out. You must call on her to step forward, and that is exactly what we are doing,” he added.
While stressing its support for Ambassador Zakar’s senatorial aspiration, the HPM reaffirmed its loyalty to the APC and its broader political objectives ahead of 2027.
The group reiterated its commitment to mobilising massive grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, in line with the ruling party’s continuity agenda.Muhammad said the movement was already putting structures in place to galvanise support for all APC candidates in the state, noting that the success of the party at all levels would depend on credible candidates and sustained engagement with the electorate.
He expressed confidence that, with leaders like Ambassador Zakar on the ballot, the APC would consolidate its dominance in Jigawa State and record an overwhelming victory in the 2027 polls.
