Atiku Condemns Killing of Brig-Gen Musa Uba, Faults Presidency on Security Lapses

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep shock over the reported killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba by terrorists, describing the incident as a glaring failure of political leadership and a troubling sign of renewed insecurity in the country.
Atiku, in a statement posted on his official Facebook page, said he was “deeply saddened, extremely shocked and disturbed” by reports of the general’s murder and by what he described as the military hierarchy’s inability to clearly explain the circumstances surrounding the attack.
He faulted what he called initial “official denials,” noting that such contradictions have only raised further concerns about transparency and accountability within the security structure.
According to the former vice president, the tragedy reflects wider leadership shortcomings at the federal level. He criticised President Bola Tinubu, alleging that the administration appears more focused on weakening the opposition than confronting the nation’s security challenges.
“Gen. Musa’s death, along with the deaths of some of the troops he was leading, is one death too many and a bold terrorist resurgence our country cannot afford,” Atiku said.
He urged citizens and military personnel to remain steadfast, expressing hope that “even this season shall pass.”
Addressing President Tinubu directly, Atiku insisted that the protection of Nigerian lives remains the president’s primary duty. He urged the Commander-in-Chief to either rise to the task or “be humble enough to admit incompetence and either ask for help or resign.”
He added that if he were president, he would order the military to occupy Borno or any state facing a siege from terrorists or bandits until such areas are secured. “We must care enough for the men and women who put their lives on the line for our sake,” he said.
Atiku offered his condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces, the family of the late Brig-Gen. Uba, and all Nigerians grieving the loss.
“May this dark period pass over us as a nation, sooner than later,” he prayed.
