The Jigawa Northeast Senatorial Zone has appealed to Governor Umar Namadi to step in and fast-track the long-awaited completion of the Hadejia Specialist Hospital.
The call was made by communities across the eight local government areas and nine state constituencies under the emirate through the Hadejia Community Advocate Group, popularly known as Hadejia Ina Mafita Initiative.
The group said the prolonged delay has left residents worried, especially as the facility is expected to serve as a major referral centre for the zone.
Speaking in Truths Finder Dutse, the group’s Vice Chairman, Comrade Dr. Hussaini Shehu, said the long delay has continued to affect access to advanced healthcare, forcing emergency cases to be referred to Nguru, Dutse and Kano.
He explained that the project, which began in 2017 with high expectations, has over the years faced procedural setbacks that slowed progress.
Dr. Shehu noted that the state government later reviewed the project and structured it into two phases — the first covering civil works and the second covering electrical installations, plumbing, staff quarters and external works.
He recalled that the project was re-advertised in 2020–2021, after which PHILCO Company initially emerged as a preferred bidder.
The company eventually withdrew, paving the way for two construction firms Kanadhir Global Links Enterprises Ltd and Ganan Construction Ltd to take up the work.
Between 2021 and 2022, the firms reportedly executed drainage, asphalt, parking areas, electrical connections, water supply, staff quarters and solar streetlight installations.
Despite this progress, residents say the project still requires decisive action to bring it to completion.
Also speaking, Founder and Pioneer Chairman of the Hadejia Ina Mafita Initiative, Dr. Isah Billami Hadejia, described the situation as “deeply worrying,” urging the community to sustain collective pressure to ensure the hospital is delivered.
The group reaffirmed its support for the state government, noting that it has compiled an inventory of equipment already procured for the hospital and items approved under the current administration.
According to the Initiative, completing the Hadejia Specialist Hospital remains essential to improving healthcare access for thousands of residents across the senatorial district.
It called for renewed commitment and cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure the long-awaited facility becomes a reality.
