The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has constituted ward and local government committees to organise and conduct its forthcoming congresses across the 27 local government areas of the state.
The Deputy State Chairman of the party, Hon. Nasiru Dahiru Jahun, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with TRUSTS FINDER in Dutse, said the party, under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi, has put in place adequate plans and arrangements to ensure a hitch-free, credible and widely acceptable congress process.
Hon. Jahun explained that prominent and elder party members have been selected in each of the 27 local government areas to serve as chairman, vice-chairman and secretary of the respective local government congress committees.

According to him, the committees are broadly constituted and include all serving and former members of the National Assembly, serving and former members of the State House of Assembly, serving and former local government chairmen, as well as serving and former commissioners from the respective local government areas.
He added that other members of the committees comprise special advisers, state party executive members from the affected local governments, local government party chairmen, vice-chairmen and secretaries, as well as speakers of the local government legislative councils.
The deputy chairman said the committees have been mandated to work out modalities that will guarantee a free, fair and transparent process for the emergence of party executives at both ward and local government levels, in a manner that will sustain unity and strengthen the party in the state.
He stressed that all procedures for the congresses must strictly comply with the APC constitution, party guidelines and the provisions of the electoral law.“There are two options for electing party executives consensus or election and committee members and contestants are free to agree on whichever option is most suitable for them,” Jahun said.
He commended Governor Namadi for his leadership style, support and “fatherly guidance” in party affairs, describing it as the foundation of the prevailing peace, unity and stability within the APC in Jigawa State.
According to him, the atmosphere of harmony within the party has continued to attract members of opposition parties, who are defecting in large numbers to the APC.
