The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of 47 Federal Unity Colleges across the country, citing rising security concerns.
This directive was issued in a circular released by the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, with reference number FME/DSSE/GM/S.160/C.11, and addressed to all principals of the affected schools.
A copy of the circular, obtained by Truths Finder and titled “Closure of Forty-Seven (47) Federal Unity Colleges,” was signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajiya Binta Abdulkadir, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education.
The ministry urged all affected principals to ensure strict compliance.
The circular stated: “Sequel to recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) with immediate effect.”
Findings by Truths Finder indicate that the directive is linked to the recent mass abductions of students by bandits in Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger states.
