The pioneer commissioner for ministry of Livestock Management in Jigawa, professor Salim Abdurrahaman Lawan has flagged off a distribution of food items to vulnerable households in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State as part of Ramadan welfare support.
The event was held at Jikas town, headquarters of Maruta Political Ward, where Lawan said the initiative was aimed at cushioning the economic strain on families during the holy month of fasting and prayer.
Prof. who was former chairman Academic Staff Union of Universities in the federal University Dutse was appointed as the pioneer commissioner of the Jigawa State Ministry of Livestock Management, said the intervention would cover all the 11 political wards in the council area.
According to him “This is just the beginning in Maruta Ward. Items meant for the remaining 10 wards have already been dispatched to their respective headquarters,” he said.
He described the gesture as a demonstration of solidarity with the people, noting that Ramadan offers an opportunity to support the less privileged and strengthen communal bonds.
Professor Salim maintained that, the distribution represents the first phase of a wider humanitarian programme designed to reach more residents in the coming weeks.
The commissioner assured that all wards in Gwaram would benefit from similar support, reaffirming his commitment to improving the welfare of the people.
Each polling unit received sacks of sugar, maize, beans and millet for onward distribution to deserving families. Village heads and Juma’at Imams were also included in the outreach.
Community leaders and beneficiaries commended the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful, and urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the initiative.
