The father of Walida Abdullahi, a teenage girl at the centre of an alleged abduction and sexual abuse case, has rejected a submission attributed to the National Population Commission (NPC) stating that his daughter was 22 years old at the time of the incident.
Malam Abdulhadi Ibrahim, speaking to journalists, maintained that his daughter was born in 2008 and was therefore a minor when she was criminally taken from Hadejia in Jigawa State to the Federal Capital Territory in 2023.
He noted that his daughter was around 16 years when the incident occurred, expressed concern over the age record attributed to the commission, describing it as inconsistent with his family’s account.
According to him, he married his late wife, Habiba Kani, in 2007, and Walida was born a year later. He argued that the NPC’s age claim contradicts this timeline.
The father said the development has caused distress to his family and called on relevant authorities to clarify the basis of the age documentation.
He urged investigators to ensure that due process is followed and that all parties involved in the matter are properly examined.Malam Ibrahim also appealed for compliance with existing court directives on the case, stressing the need for transparency and adherence to the rule of law.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the NPC were not immediately successful at the time of filing this report.
