The Jigawa State Government has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lafiya Nigeria in a fresh move to strengthen reproductive healthcare services and reduce maternal and neonatal deaths across the state.
The decision was reached at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Umar Namadi after the Ministry of Health sought approval to formalise the partnership through the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA).
Announcing the development while briefing journalists on the outcome of the council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, described the partnership as a major boost to the state’s healthcare reform agenda.

According to him, Lafiya Nigeria will collaborate with the JSPHCDA to improve reproductive health services through capacity building for healthcare workers, technical support, enhanced service delivery, community mobilisation and the implementation of evidence-based interventions.
Musa said the partnership is designed to strengthen maternal and reproductive healthcare at the primary healthcare level while expanding access to quality services for women and families across Jigawa.
He explained that the initiative aligns with Governor Umar Namadi’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and advancing Universal Health Coverage in the state.

“The collaboration will support ongoing efforts to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, expand access to family planning services, improve antenatal and postnatal care, and promote informed reproductive health choices among the people,” the commissioner said.
He expressed confidence that the partnership would complement existing government interventions and accelerate progress towards a more responsive, accessible and efficient primary healthcare system for the people of Jigawa State.
