Jigawa State has moved closer to a smooth 2026 Hajj operation, with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) applauding Governor Umar Namadi’s strong backing as preparations hit over 70 per cent.
The commendation came from NAHCON’s Zonal Coordinator for Jigawa, Kano and Katsina states, Alhaji Muhammad Umar Kalgo, during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Dutse.
Kalgo described Jigawa’s preparation as “timely and exemplary,” singling out the State Pilgrims Welfare Board for discipline and efficiency in meeting key deadlines.
He also praised the Director-General of the board, Alhaji Ahmad Umar Labbo, for providing experienced leadership, noting that Jigawa’s operational model is now attracting attention from other states.
“NAHCON will carry out final inspections before the airlift begins,” Kalgo assured, expressing confidence in the state’s readiness.
On the ground, preparations appear well advanced. Labbo disclosed that distribution of essential items, including pilgrims’ bags, has been completed, while intending pilgrims now await movement into the Hajj camp.
The meeting drew participation from critical agencies and service providers such as Umza Airline, Dutse International Airport, Customs, Immigration, NDLEA, FRSC, Civil Defence, DSS, Police and NAFDAC, alongside hoteliers and media organisations.
Stakeholders focused on tightening logistics and coordination to avoid last-minute hitches.
Adding momentum to the exercise, Umza Airline confirmed that the inaugural flight for Jigawa pilgrims will depart on May 4 at 8:30 p.m.
Labbo, while thanking stakeholders for their cooperation, reserved special appreciation for Governor Namadi, stressing that his “total support” remains the backbone of efforts to deliver a seamless and successful Hajj operation.
