In a decisive move to strengthen transparency and accountability, the Jigawa State Executive Council (EXCO), chaired by Governor Malam Umar Namadi, has approved four key reform pillars to drive the state’s Open Government Partnership (OGP) State Action Plan III for 2026–2027.
The State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa, who briefed journalists after the council meeting, said the approval signals the government’s renewed commitment to open governance and citizen-focused reforms.
According to him, the four thematic areas include Fiscal Transparency and Accountability, Access to Justice, Climate Action, and Anti-Corruption.
“These priorities reflect the determination of the present administration to entrench openness in governance, strengthen institutions, and ensure that citizens are actively involved in decision-making processes,” Musa stated.
He disclosed that the council not only approved the thematic focus areas but also gave the green light for the immediate commencement of the development and implementation of the State Action Plan III.
Musa further revealed that EXCO ratified the process for the development and finalisation of the plan, describing it as a strategic blueprint that will guide governance reforms in the state over the next two years.
The commissioner emphasised that the council underscored the importance of collaboration among government agencies, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the plan.
Describing the development as a milestone, Musa said Jigawa’s latest step reinforces its standing in the Open Government Partnership initiative and demonstrates a firm commitment to accountability, inclusiveness, and responsive leadership.
The move, he added, is ultimately aimed at improving service delivery and ensuring that governance works for the benefit of all citizens.
