Unknown criminal suspected to be Fulani herders attacked the official residence of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Aujara, Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State, killing a police constable and injuring one other.

Reports from the area indicated that the attackers stormed the residence around midnight and coughed the officers on duty unaware and lunches an attack, leading to the death of Police Constable Nura Garba Jahun, while his colleague sustained serious injuries.

The late officer was confirmed dead at the Jahun General Hospital and has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Family members of the deceased described the incident as shocking. His father, Malam Garba Jahun, said his son was gentle and disciplined.“

He had not spent long in the service. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” he said.

On the circumstances of the attack, he added: “We don’t know the cause, and the police authority did not tell me anything.

They came, condoled with us, and left. Maybe later we will know more.”Sources said nothing was removed from the residence during the attack.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Jigawa State Command, SP Lawan Shi’isu Adam, said he was not yet briefed on the incident.“How did it happen? This is a serious issue. I’m just hearing it now. I don’t have any information yet,” he said.

The District Head of Aujara, Alhaji Aminu Dankade, also confirmed the death in a post on his official Facebook page, praying for the repose of the late officer’s soul.

Police authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the attack.
