The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has restated that the protection of lives and property remains a fundamental and non-negotiable duty of government at all levels.
This was part of a communiqué issued at the end of the Forum’s meeting held on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th December 2025 at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The meeting was convened by the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
The Forum reviewed the nation’s security situation and commended the improved coordination among federal, state and local security institutions. It also praised the courage and sacrifices of security agencies and community volunteers. The governors resolved to further strengthen community-based security initiatives, intelligence gathering, conflict-prevention mechanisms and support systems for victims of violence and disasters.
The communiqué also highlighted the importance of social cohesion, inter-faith harmony and inter-ethnic understanding, urging leaders at all levels to promote unity and moderation while isolating criminal acts and discouraging hate speech. The Forum commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing re-engineering of the country’s security architecture.
The meeting provided an opportunity for Progressive Governors to assess the national trajectory and reaffirm support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that citizens’ welfare remains the centrepiece of governance. Governors from APC-controlled states were in attendance.
The Forum reviewed the political, economic and social environment and reaffirmed that all reforms must translate into improved living conditions for Nigerians. It praised the President’s efforts in stabilising the economy, strengthening security and driving sustainable growth, while pledging to align state policies with national objectives in food security, power, transportation, social investment and enterprise support.
Acknowledging the hardship caused by ongoing macroeconomic reforms, the governors commended Nigerians for their resilience.
They agreed to scale up interventions in food production, SME support, youth employment, social protection and relief for low-income households. The Forum pledged deeper collaboration with federal institutions, the National Economic Council and local governments to ensure that the benefits of reforms reach every community.
The PGF emphasized the role of infrastructure in boosting productivity and improving living standards. It praised Lagos for its leadership in urban reforms and agreed to deepen inter-state cooperation.
The governors resolved to invest more in roads, housing, transport, water and sanitation, digital infrastructure and climate-resilient projects, ensuring inclusivity for vulnerable and marginalised groups.
The Forum underscored the importance of effective local government administration and vowed to pursue reforms that enhance transparency, accountability and service delivery. It also committed to expanding citizen engagement through town halls and consultations with traditional rulers, civil society groups, professional bodies and youth organisations.
The governors praised ongoing efforts to strengthen internal democracy and reconciliation within the party. They pledged continued support for President Tinubu and reiterated their responsibility to deliver on the aspirations of Nigerians through tangible social and economic outcomes.
The progressive governors expressing confidence in Nigeria’s future, the governors pledged stronger policy coordination and inter-state cooperation, and urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and continue supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Forum also wished citizens a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, promising sustained collaboration with all arms of government, private sector and civil society to achieve a just and prosperous nation.
