The Jigawa State Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Comrade Umar Danjani, has raised the alarm over what he described as the conversion of the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) headquarters into an event centre.Danjani sounded the alarm in a post on his official Facebook page, where he called on Governor Malam Umar Namadi to urgently intervene and take appropriate action.
According to the PDP chieftain, the incident occurred late at night along Kiyawa Road, near the NNPC area.
“Your Excellency, Governor Danmodi, last night while I was driving past the NNPC area along Kiyawa Road, I heard loud music playing. I had to turn back to see with my own eyes what was happening. To my surprise, I discovered that the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) had been turned into a venue for a celebration,” he wrote.
Danjani said he decided to bring the issue directly to the governor’s attention after alleging that commissioners and advisers had failed to do so.

“Since your commissioners and advisers have failed to inform you, I decided to take it upon myself to tell you directly,” he stated.
The PDP deputy chairman described the development as a grave insult to the state’s electoral body and public service.
“This is an insult to the State Independent Electoral Commission and to government service itself, especially when there are proper venues for events such as 3-Star Hotel, the Sports Complex behind the Government House, and even the Manpower Centre,” he alleged.
Danjani further recalled that the SIEC headquarters was built for a specific democratic purpose, added that “I am certain that Sule Lamido did not build that magnificent structure for parties, but for the conduct of local government elections in our state”
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the state government or the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission on the allegation.
