The Partnership Against Violent Extremism (PAVE) Network in Jigawa State has reaffirmed its commitment to a collaborative, inclusive and evidence-based strategy to prevent and counter violent extremism within the state and the wider North-West region.
The chairman of the Jigawa State chapter of PAVE, Comrade Muhammad Musbahu Basirka, stated this while briefing journalists on the organisation’s ongoing programmes and interventions aimed at curbing violence and extremist tendencies.
Basirka stressed that peace and resilience are shared responsibilities, not abstract ideals.
According to him, collective action remains the most effective tool in preventing the spread of violent extremism, safeguarding communities and securing a peaceful and prosperous future for Jigawa State.
He called on security agencies to deepen community engagement while strictly upholding human rights and the rule of law.
He also urged the Jigawa State Government to sustain leadership and coordination in driving the Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) agenda across the state.
The PAVE chairman further appealed to residents of Jigawa State to remain vigilant, support community-based early warning and alert systems, and reject all forms of extremist narratives.
Basirka also charged traditional and religious leaders to continue promoting peace, tolerance and social cohesion, while encouraging youth and women groups to take the lead in resilience-building initiatives and the promotion of positive counter-narratives.
He added that ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) as well as local government councils must mainstream PCVE into their policies, plans and budgets to ensure a coordinated and sustainable approach to tackling violent extremism.
