A two times Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the House of Representatives in Ringim/Taura Federal Constituency, Jigawa State, Hon. Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gujungu officially announced his defection at a well-attended ceremony held in his hometown of Gujungu, Taura Local Government Area of the state.
Receiving the decampee on behalf of the Jigawa State Government, Governor Malam Umar Namadi, through the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the effective implementation of people-oriented policies under the APC-led administration.
Governor Namadi noted that the policies of the APC at the federal level were already translating into economic growth and improved welfare for Nigerians, stressing that Jigawa State was aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda for accelerated development.
The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, who represented the governor, formally welcomed Hon. Gujungu into the APC fold. He described the defection as a major boost to the party’s strength in Ringim/Taura Federal Constituency.
Rt. Hon. Dangyatin recalled that Hon. Gujungu was a key figure in the PDP and had contested the House of Representatives seat for Ringim/Taura in the 2019 and 2023 general elections.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu said his decision to join the APC was driven by his desire to contribute to and benefit from the developmental strides being recorded by the APC-led governments at both the state and federal levels.
According to him, the leadership style and development-focused policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi inspired his decision to return to the APC in the interest of his constituents.
The defection ceremony attracted top government officials, party leaders, local government chairmen, and other prominent stakeholders from across Jigawa State.
