The Jigawa State Police Command has said it is yet to take custody of a suspect connected to an alleged child abduction case, pending a formal handover by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The position was conveyed in a written response to the legal representatives of the victim’s family, following a court order directing investigation into the matter.
According to the police, they are unable to proceed beyond preliminary steps until the suspect is released to them by the DSS, after which a full and lawful investigation would commence.
The development was confirmed by counsel to the family, Barrister Kabiru Adamu, who said his team wrote to the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State on January 13, 2026, requesting compliance with the court order.
He said the police replied two days later, indicating that they were awaiting the suspect’s transfer from the DSS.
“The police stated their readiness to investigate the case diligently once the suspect is handed over,” Adamu said.
The lawyer also expressed concern over the absence of official communication regarding the release of the minor to her parents, which he said was contained in the court directive.
He urged all relevant authorities to ensure strict adherence to the order, noting that continued delay could undermine public confidence in the justice process.
Adamu added that the family was considering further legal options should the situation persist.
