The Bauchi State Government has formally notified the general public of a regrettable road accident involving journalists from the state, including correspondents of Channels Television, African Independent Television (AIT), and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), as well as members of the Correspondents’ Chapel and staff of the Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV) and Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC).
The incident occurred on Wednesday along the Bauchi–Yelwan Duguri Road while the journalists were on an official assignment covering the commissioning of projects executed by the North East Development Commission (NEDC), led by the Honourable Minister of State for Regional Development and the Managing Director of the Commission.
Although the accident was described as severe, the state government expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah that no life was lost. The affected journalists were promptly evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where they are currently receiving medical attention. Hospital authorities confirmed that while some of the victims sustained fractures and bodily bruises, their conditions are stable and they are responding positively to treatment.
Governor Bala Mohammed, on behalf of the government and people of Bauchi State, extended his heartfelt sympathy to the injured journalists, their families, colleagues, and respective media organisations.
“We are deeply concerned by this unfortunate incident and we recognise the dedication and sacrifices journalists make in the course of their professional duties, often under challenging circumstances,” the governor said.
The Bauchi State Government assured the families of the victims and their media organisations that it is closely monitoring the situation and working in collaboration with the hospital management to ensure that the injured journalists receive the best possible medical care and support until full recovery.
