The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to promote peaceful coexistence, charity and national unity as Muslims and Christians commence the 2026 holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent.

The Director of NOA in Jigawa State, Alhaji Ahmad Ibrahim, made the call in a statement signed by the Head of Media and Communication of the agency, Miss Sarah Ogodo.

He felicitated with the Muslim Ummah and Christians across the globe on the commencement of the sacred periods, describing the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent as a rare spiritual convergence that calls for deep reflection, community solidarity and selfless service.

According to the statement, for the first time in many years, the Christian season of Lent and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan begin on the same day.

Ibrahim noted that the coincidence goes beyond a mere meeting of dates, describing it as a powerful symbol of shared sacrifice and reflection.

“We may therefore see this convergence as what might fittingly be called a ‘Double Fast’ — a divine invitation to transcend our differences and rediscover our shared humanity,” he stated.

He explained that as millions of Nigerians Christians and Muslims alike devote themselves to periods of fasting, penance and prayer, they are united in a common quest for the mercy of the Almighty and the healing of the nation.

The director stressed that the rare alignment calls for intensified prayers against insecurity and other social vices confronting the country.

“But prayer alone is not enough; it must be paired with action. Citizens are urged to extend charity to the vulnerable, forgive one another and uphold the self-discipline both faiths commend,” he added.

He further urged Nigerians to make the season one of deep spiritual engagement, expressing hope that the sacrifices offered would usher in lasting peace and unity across the country.

Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim prayed for enduring harmony in Nigeria, Ibrahim reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to fostering a well-informed, united and egalitarian society.
