The Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has pledged to facilitate interventions in the areas of water supply, road infrastructure and solar energy at the Federal University, Dutse (FUD).
This was contained in a statement issued by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Malam Abdullahi Yahaya Bello, and made available to TRUTHS FINDER in Dutse.
The minister made the commitment while receiving the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, who paid him a courtesy visit.
According to the statement, Goronyo underscored the importance of education under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as the bedrock of societal development.
On road infrastructure, the minister said he would present the university’s request to the Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, adding that, as the overseer of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), he would also explore ways to assist the institution within his capacity.
Regarding water supply, Goronyo promised to liaise with the Minister of Water Resources to facilitate projects that would ease access to potable water for students and staff.
He further assured that the issue of solar energy would be taken up with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), noting that the Federal Government was already implementing pilot power projects in tertiary institutions across the country.
The minister also advised the Vice-Chancellor to engage other ministries and relevant agencies in pursuit of partnerships and collaborations aimed at accelerating the university’s growth.
Earlier, Professor Gumel appreciated the minister for granting the audience despite short notice, describing FUD as a young institution in need of support, particularly in the areas of roads, hostels, water and renewable energy.
He noted that despite its relatively young age, the university has distinguished itself among institutions established during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, even outperforming some older universities in certain areas.
The Vice-Chancellor commended Goronyo for his achievements in office and prayed for his continued success.
