Prominent stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ringim/Taura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State have condemned the destruction and defacement of billboards bearing the images of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi, and the member of the state executive council in Jigawa, Auwalu D. Sankara.
The condemnations followed viral posts by several APC members across Facebook and other social media platforms, describing the incident as a “premeditated act of political misconduct.”
One of the party loyalists, Malam Abdurrashi Zubairu Taura, alleged that the act was carried out by supporters of a serving member of the House of Representatives and his allies in Maje town, within the constituency.
In separate statements, Malam Abdurrahid Zubairu, Mr. Abdurrahman Naiya Kiri, and Malam Yunusa Baba Ali Taura—speaking on behalf of APC supporters—said they “vehemently reject and distance themselves” from what they called a disgraceful act led by the lawmaker, whom they accused of mobilising thugs to disrespect the President, the Governor and the APC youth leader.
Naiya Kiri said residents of the constituency woke up to an “unprovoked political provocation” targeted at highly respected party leaders, noting that the action does not reflect the mandate given to the federal legislator.
“This is far from the representation our communities entrusted him with. It is clear he is not aligned with His Excellency the Governor nor with the APC,” he said.
He added that the perpetrators were “imported troublemakers” and not members of the local community. According to him, only the presence of security personnel prevented the situation from escalating.
“We tender our sincere apologies to both the Governor and the President. We hold no grudges. Whoever wrongfully takes the rights of others, Allah will judge him. We completely distance ourselves from this misconduct,” he added.
In his own statement, Abdurrashi Zubairu Taura urged Governor Namadi to “take immediate action” and call the lawmaker to order, saying his conduct is influencing children and youths negatively.
“Our representative has begun openly undermining the Governor. Today, children are mocking Your Excellency’s picture because of the hatred he spreads,” he alleged.
The APC members reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Namadi, President Tinubu and the party leadership at all levels, insisting that the vandals have no link to genuine APC members in Ringim/Taura.
They urged security agencies and the APC leadership to uncover the sponsors of the attack and take decisive action to prevent future occurrences.
Similarly, Yunusa Baba Ali Taura called for an in-depth investigation and firm disciplinary action against anyone involved, regardless of status.
“This conduct breeds disunity and crises within the party and may escalate into something worse,” he warned.
He added: “Anyone who believes he is popular should prove it at the polling units through constitutional and democratic means.”
All efforts to contact the member house of representatives representing Ringim/Taura federal constituency, Hon. Sa’adu Wada Taura to prove abortive as all his mobile telephone numbers are not going.
When contacted the member representing Ringim/Taura Federal Constituency, Hon. Sa’adu Wada Taura, has denied allegations linking him to the destruction of political billboards in the constituency, he described the claims circulating on social media as baseless and a deliberate attempt to smear his reputation.
Speaking through his Media Assistant, Muhammad Mustapha, the lawmaker said it was impossible for him to sponsor or support the destruction of billboards belonging to prominent leaders, insisting such actions contradict his character and values.
Mustapha accused political enemies of fabricating the story to undermine his growing popularity, adding that “those behind the allegations were working against the interest of the people, particularly the ordinary citizens who have been benefiting from various development projects facilitated by Hon. Sa’adu Wada with support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”.
He stressed that the lawmaker remains focused on delivering quality representation and will not be distracted by what he termed “cheap political blackmail.”
He noted that several projects, including mini-solar grids in 11 locations across Ringim and Taura, are ongoing, with more expected to commence soon.
