The Jigawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding women’s inclusion in governance and human capital development, in line with the pro-people policies of Governor Malam Umar Namadi.
Wife of the governor, Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi, gave the assurance on Tuesday at the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Women’s Committee in Dutse.
The event, held at the hall of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), drew women from various sectors across the state.
Mrs Namadi said the administration of Governor Umar Namadi has consistently prioritised the welfare of women and children through deliberate policies embedded in his 12-point agenda.
She noted that the governor’s development blueprint places women at the centre of governance, with programmes designed to improve their livelihoods, enhance access to opportunities and promote their participation in politics.
“His Excellency always puts women and children first. This is evident in the numerous initiatives aimed at improving their overall well-being under his 12-point agenda,” she said.
She added that since the inception of the present administration, women across the state have continued to benefit from targeted empowerment schemes and social interventions.
“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I assure you of the state government’s sustained commitment to inclusive policies that will continue to create opportunities for women, who remain the backbone of every community,” she stated.
Mrs Namadi further disclosed that the government has introduced several programmes focused on addressing the challenges faced by women, strengthening their economic independence and amplifying their voices in decision-making processes.
Earlier in her remarks, the Chairperson of the NLC in Jigawa State, Comrade Salma Ilyasu Abubakar, said the gathering was not only to celebrate women but also to reflect on existing challenges and chart a path for meaningful action.
She explained that the 2026 IWD theme, “Rights, Justice and Action for All Women and Girls,” underscores the need for deliberate and sustained efforts to transform the lives of women and girls.
According to her, the theme is anchored on three critical pillars, including the protection of fundamental human rights such as access to education, healthcare, decent work and freedom from violence and discrimination.
She added that the theme also emphasises the need for accessible and responsive justice systems that protect women and hold offenders accountable.
Abubakar further stressed the importance of breaking societal barriers, challenging harmful norms and creating enabling environments for women to lead and succeed.
The event featured goodwill messages from stakeholders, who commended the Jigawa State Government for its sustained efforts in promoting gender inclusion and women empowerment.
