The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has launched a blistering attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the administration of taking the state backwards through what it described as worsening poverty, poor healthcare delivery and bad governance.

The PDP also declared that its 2027 governorship candidate, Mustapha Sule Lamido, is prepared to reclaim the state and build on the legacy of his father, former Governor Sule Lamido.

The Director-General of the PDP Jigawa State Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Shehu Liman, made the claims while speaking to journalists on the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Liman described Mustapha Sule Lamido as a candidate with the “moral discipline, capacity, passion and commitment” required to reposition Jigawa State.

He said the PDP candidate would consolidate and build on what he described as the achievements of the Sule Lamido administration between 2007 and 2015.

According to him, the former PDP administration transformed Jigawa from a state suffering from backwardness and placed it on a path of peace, development and economic progress.

“The PDP government restored the hope, confidence and belief of the average Jigawa citizen in building a state that would provide opportunities and an enabling environment for all citizens to attain a decent life,” Liman said.

The PDP campaign chief alleged that the progress recorded under the former administration was reversed after the party left office.

“It is very unfortunate that after the PDP government, another party mistakenly got into power and dragged the state back into an unimaginable condition of poverty, poor healthcare services and other forms of bad governance,” he alleged.

Liman challenged Jigawa voters to scrutinise the records of successive administrations before casting their votes in 2027.

He said voters should not be carried away by campaign promises but should judge political parties and candidates based on their previous performances.

The PDP chieftain also accused the APC of allegedly mobilising “rented crowds” and exploiting market days to organise political rallies in an attempt to conceal what he described as its lack of popularity among the people.

He further warned Jigawa voters against what he described as attempts to deceive them with unfulfilled campaign promises.

“We will go round all the 27 local government areas of Jigawa State to remind our people of the purposeful leadership of the PDP, which impacted their lives and those of their children, as well as the kind of failed leadership that followed,” Liman said.

He expressed confidence that the PDP would secure the support of Jigawa voters in the 2027 election, saying the party would campaign on its record and its promise of providing what it described as purposeful leadership.

“The PDP is the political party Jigawa people have confidence in, and I am sure that the outcome of the 2027 general election will be in favour of the collective interest of Jigawa people who trusted the PDP and all its candidates,” he stated.
