Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has expressed concern over what he described as the “unacceptable attitude” of some political appointees who, he said, have distanced themselves from the people while claiming lack of logistics and government support.
The governor spoke during a high-level meeting with members of the State House of Assembly and political appointees at the Government House, Dutse.
Namadi stressed that commitment to the welfare of citizens and selfless service must remain the guiding principles of his administration, noting that governance is fundamentally about serving the people and delivering on campaign promises.
“We, as a government, are doing our best to improve the living conditions of our people through the execution of human and infrastructural development projects in an equitable manner. This is why we introduced our 12-point agenda and remain committed to its implementation,” he said.
In a firm directive, the governor asked any commissioner, technical adviser, special adviser or assistant who feels they lack the means to support constituents either financially or materially to resign.
Adopting a tone that blended appreciation with caution, Namadi commended many appointees for their sacrifices and dedication, noting that several accepted their roles out of a genuine desire to serve.
“Your efforts have significantly contributed to the successes recorded so far. Leadership is about impact and service to society,” he added.
The governor, however, warned that the conduct of party members and appointees would henceforth be closely monitored, with emphasis on loyalty, discipline and active contribution to the state’s development agenda.
He dismissed recent defections as inconsequential, suggesting that those who left may have constituted a drain on internal cohesion.
As part of efforts to strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, Namadi announced the inauguration of political mobilisation committees at state, local government and ward levels.
The decision followed deliberations at the meeting, which had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, local government chairmen, as well as advisers, assistants and heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the governor said the committees are aimed at consolidating the party’s strength, deepening grassroots engagement and sustaining unity across the state.
According to him, the committees will interface with party members, reconcile aggrieved stakeholders, re-engage inactive members and promote inclusiveness within the political structure.
He explained that the state-level committee would be chaired by the governor, with the state party chairman as co-chairman, while commissioners and advisers would head committees at the local government level. Ward level committees, he added, would be led by special assistants or elected councillors.
Namadi linked the initiative to early preparations for the 2027 polls, stressing the need for reconciliation, mobilisation and sustained grassroots outreach.
He said the committees would also focus on voter sensitisation and registration, identifying challenges within party ranks and strengthening relationships across all tiers.
“This is a crucial time for us. As we approach another election cycle, it is important to bring all stakeholders together to ensure that the party remains united and focused,” he said.
The governor further highlighted Jigawa’s strategic importance in national politics, urging stakeholders to justify the confidence reposed in the state by strengthening internal harmony, especially amid an influx of new members.
On political ambition, Namadi cautioned aspirants against desperation, urging patience and faith.
“Power belongs to God. It is not a do-or-die affair. If granted, one should be grateful; if not, there is always another opportunity,” he said.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Garba MK, commended the governor’s developmental strides, describing them as strong campaign assets that have enhanced the party’s credibility.
He added that the administration’s performance has boosted the confidence of party members in engaging with the electorate and strengthened its grassroots appeal.
