Senator Muhammad Sabo Nakudu has emerged victorious in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship primary election in Jigawa State after defeating his closest challenger, Bashir Adamu Jumbo, with a wide margin.
The keenly contested primary, which drew party stakeholders and delegates from across the state, ended with Nakudu polling 35,939 votes to secure the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Announcing the results at the party’s collation centre in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the Chief Returning Officer, DIG Zaki Ahmed (retd.), disclosed that a total of 55,476 valid votes were recorded during the exercise.
According to the results declared, Bashir Adamu Jumbo scored 19,537 votes, while Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu garnered 35,939 votes to emerge winner.
Ahmed said the election process was transparent and conducted in accordance with the party’s electoral guidelines.
“After painstaking collation and computation of the results from across the state, a total of 55,476 valid votes were recorded.
“Bashir Adamu Jumbo secured 19,537 votes, while Sabo Muhammad Nakudu polled 35,939 votes.
“By the powers vested in me as Chairman of the Electoral Committee, and having fulfilled all requirements as well as scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu as the winner and duly elected governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State,” he stated.
The returning officer commended members of the electoral committee, party officials and stakeholders for ensuring a peaceful and successful conduct of the primary election.
The outcome of the primary is expected to shape the political contest ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Jigawa State, as the ADC positions itself for a major challenge in the state’s political landscape.
