The Jigawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Bello Abdulkadir Fanini, has applauded the unanimous decision of the Supreme Court of Nigeria dismissing two separate appeals and affirming the death sentences earlier handed down by the Jigawa State High Court and upheld by the Court of Appeal.
In a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Dutse, the state capital, Fanini commended the state’s prosecution team and the judiciary for their diligence and unwavering commitment to justice.
“On April 10, 2026, I led a team of state counsels to the sitting of the Supreme Court in Abuja for judgment in respect of suits No. SC/CR/2020/69 and SC/CR/70/2020,” he stated.
He explained that the appeals stemmed from two separate murder cases involving Abdulmajid Hassan and Adamu Audu, both convicted for fatal stabbing.
According to him, “In both cases, the nation’s apex court unanimously dismissed the appeals and affirmed the death sentences earlier imposed by the Jigawa State High Court and upheld by the Court of Appeal.”
Fanini said the rulings reinforce the state government’s firm stance that criminal acts will be met with the full weight of the law, adding that the verdict sends a strong message against violent crimes.
He further stressed that under the leadership of Governor Umar Namadi, Jigawa State remains committed to strengthening the justice system and ensuring the protection of lives and property.
The Attorney General assured that the Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with other justice sector institutions, will continue to intensify efforts toward promoting peace, security, and economic growth in line with the administration’s 12-point agenda.
