The Senator representing Jigawa North-East Senatorial District, Ahmad Muhammad Abdulhamid Malam-Madori, has sponsored more than 20 female students to pursue various health-related courses in higher institutions within and outside Jigawa State under his scholarship foundation for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The senator disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Truths Finder in Jigawa State, saying the initiative was aimed at promoting female education and developing skilled manpower in the health sector.
Speaking through his Special Assistant, Hon. Adamu Ibrahim Gira, the senator said the scholarship, implemented through the Senator Ahmad Muhammad Abdulhamid Malam-Madori Scholarship Foundation, had secured admission for more than 20 female students to study healthcare, nutrition, environmental health, disease control and other related disciplines.

According to Gira, the beneficiaries were selected from the eight local government areas of the senatorial district, with priority given to brilliant orphans, children of persons living with disabilities and students from less privileged backgrounds.
He disclosed that the senator had so far committed ₦4.7 million towards tuition, accommodation and other academic expenses for some of the beneficiaries studying various health-related courses at the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Nguru, Yobe State.
He added that arrangements were ongoing to settle the academic expenses of other beneficiaries admitted into different institutions.
The students are pursuing professional qualifications in Nutrition and Dietetics, Epidemiology and Disease Control, Health Information Management, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Food Safety and Quality.

Gira further explained that some beneficiaries secured admission through the 2025 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) intake to study Environmental Health Technology, Medical Imaging Technology and Community Health.
The scholarship intervention also covers four students at Belba College of Nursing, Hadejia, while another beneficiary received assistance to study at the Federal College of Nursing Sciences, Azare.
The beneficiaries were drawn from Kaugama, Malam-Madori, Kiri-Kasamma, Kafin Hausa, Guri, Auyo, Birniwa and Hadejia local government areas.
“An approximately ₦1.08 million was allocated to cover tuition and accommodation expenses for some of the beneficiaries, although the accommodation cost for one student was not specified”.
The intervention is expected to strengthen human capital development in the health sector by creating opportunities for young women, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to acquire professional qualifications.
It is also expected to ease the financial burden on beneficiaries’ families while increasing the availability of trained personnel in healthcare, nutrition, disease surveillance, environmental health and food safety.
The scholarship programme forms part of efforts to support access to higher education and develop skilled manpower capable of contributing to improved healthcare delivery and public health services in Jigawa State.
