A frontline governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State, Mustapha Sule Lamido, has successfully scaled through the party’s screening exercise held at the PDP National Secretariat, Legacy House Annex, Abuja.
Lamido, the Santurakin Dutse, used the occasion to advocate greater inclusion of young people in Nigeria’s leadership structure, insisting that the nation’s political future depends largely on empowering a new generation of leaders.
In a statement issued by the head of his media team, Mansur Ahmed, the PDP stalwart noted that many developed nations across the world continue to record progress because young people are actively involved in governance and policy formulation.
According to him, Nigeria must not be left behind in embracing youthful leadership capable of introducing fresh ideas, innovation and meaningful transformation in the political system.
He also expressed concern over the growing wave of defections by politicians across party lines, attributing the trend to what he described as lack of ideological conviction and commitment among some political actors.
“The younger generation believe in themselves and are prepared to make a difference in the country’s political system,” Lamido stated.
The governorship hopeful further revealed that his decision to join the race followed persistent calls from people across Jigawa State urging him to contest the governorship seat.
Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, Lamido said he garnered nearly 400,000 votes across the state, describing the outcome as a strong indication that Nigerians, particularly the youth, are yearning for purposeful and visionary leadership.
He maintained that the results of the last elections demonstrated the growing desire among citizens for leaders capable of driving political, economic and social reforms in the country.
