The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Jigawa State.
The affirmation took place in Dutse, the state capital, where delegates from the 27 local government areas unanimously endorsed the former governorship candidate to fly the party’s flag once again.
Mustapha Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, received his Certificate of Return shortly after the exercise.
Speaking during the presentation, the Returning Officer, Barrister Isah Ahmed, said the affirmation process followed the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and was monitored by officials of the commission.
Ahmed described the exercise as peaceful, orderly and in line with democratic principles.
In his acceptance speech, Mustapha Lamido said his emergence was not driven by personal ambition but by a shared determination to rescue and reposition Jigawa State for sustainable growth and development.
He thanked PDP leaders at the national, state and grassroots levels for conducting what he described as a transparent and peaceful primary process.
The PDP candidate also called on party supporters to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that only unity and commitment could return the party to power in the state.
According to him, the PDP remains determined to restore effective leadership, improve public service delivery and revive hope among residents of the state.
“This moment is not new to me. In 2023, you entrusted me with this same responsibility, and together we campaigned on unity, hope and reform for a better Jigawa State,” Lamido stated.
The PDP candidate noted that although the party lost the 2023 governorship election, it succeeded in gaining the trust and support of many Jigawa residents.
He identified key challenges facing the state to include declining standards in education, weak healthcare services, unemployment and economic hardship.
“We are not here to lament; we are here to fix it. We are here to restore competence in governance, dignity in public service and hope in the lives of our people,” he said.
Lamido promised to prioritise youth empowerment, economic growth, healthcare, education and institutional reforms if elected governor in 2027.
He also commended the PDP leadership at the national and state levels for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent primary election.
The governorship candidate appealed to the people of Jigawa State to support his aspiration, assuring them of accountable leadership and prudent management of public resources.
